The Connor Chronicles
Volume LI
Ok, it’s been a while. This being busy crap stinks.
I’m really sending this because I have several announcements.
However, we shall slip in a little comedy (ok attempt at comedy)
first.
Gotta love those first warm days of the year. Especially
in mid-town.
Temps go up & the clothes come off! It’s a beautiful
world. I have a question though.
Why do women get ticked off if you walk up take a look and
say “Hey, nice rack!”? Whats so wrong with that?
I mean if I said “Hey, great smile!” or “Hey,
you have beautiful eyes!”, I’d be considered a
sweet guy (or a loser with a really bad line….insert
your own Danny’s hair line joke here).
But god forbid we take notice of the fact that you are wearing
a belly shirt with the neck cut out so you have enough cleavage
to plant corn!
Hell, there are women with 3 kids in their 40’s walking
around with some kind of super high-tech wonder bra that would
make Sir Isaac Newton rethink his laws of gravity!
Throw in the low cut jeans (padded @ss mind you) with the
top of your thong showing. No, you don’t want us to
notice that. Please! Who do you think you are kidding? Not
to mention the jeans are so tight that if we look from the
right eye level we can see our buddies waving to us from the
other side of you…..and that’s with your legs
together!
We’re men…we like T&A. It’s what we
do. It’s nature. You put a beer in front of us we drink
it. You put a game on, we watch it. You walk past with your
cans bouncing around we look! That’s how you know god
is a man.
T!ts!!! He gave you 2 of them….hell, we would have been
happy with one.
Let’s face it our attention span isn’t that great
anyway!
And stop the “Do you believe he looked at me!”
crap. Your not fooling anyone. Let’s face it, jeans
that tight are not comfortable. A rubber band ripping at your
@ss isn’t comfortable. You want us to look, we look,
it makes the world go around.
Now put on the edible undies, the French made outfit &
grab me a cold one!
Ok, I promise a more extensive & maybe even funny Chronicles
next time.
Hey, theres always my next trip to LA! Or even the cruise.
How long before Face loses her camera? Or Rob loses a child.
Or Jen loses me. Or god forbid, I lose a beer!
Please read below, if not The review of The Who, the announcements
of upcoming events.
As always, until next time, stay safe.
Later,
Dan
Ok, I have to take a moment to review the 2 new Who songs.
Also, note that after The Who comments there is information
on some very important upcoming events. Here we go.
First, let’s look at Real Good Looking Boy. People
have tried to understand this song based on the title or the
opening bars and are all totally wrong.
Those who look at the title say “Why is Pet writing
about good looking boys”. To them I say, get over your
phobias. The ones who listen to the first few bars (which
are also the notes to the chorus of Evlis Presleys Fools Rush
In) think it’s a tribute to Elvis. This is close, but
is not correct. Upon listening to the song a few times I came
away thinking that it Pete writing about himself. About seeing
Elvis on TV as a youngster and wanting to be a star like him.
I wasn’t dead on, but I was very close. The song is
from a Novella that Pete is working on called “The Boy
Who Heard Music”. The song is about 2 different people.
It is about Pete & Roger.
It is about Pete seeing Elvis on TV and wanting to be a star
& thinking he could be a good looking boy too. However,
as you listen to the lyrics you hear how Pete’s mother
told him he was ugly. However, the other boy Roger does grow
to be the good looking boy & they become starts together.
The second song “Old Red Wine” is written for
the late John Entwhistle.
John had a think for expensive Red Wine. The song chronicles
the night of John’s death (hooker & all) and his
vices in life. It was written in a single setting in Pete’s
hotel room right here in NYC when Pete was in town to see
his brother Simon perform, shortly after John’s death.
As far as musical reviews. The songs are more like The Who
than there last
2 albums (with the exception of the single track Another Tricky
Day from Face Dances). In Real Good Looking Boy you have some
classic Who trade marks. From the powerful chords that open
the song to the break where the chorus from Fools Rush in
is sung. The Who have routinely in their better material dropped
segments of other songs into tracks. Examples are Pure &
Easy at the end of The Song is Over or Take Me To The Pilot
in the middle of their tribute to Elton John’s Saturday
Nights Alright For Fighting.
The bass lines are standard, but what would you expect without
John.
Ironically it’s a different bassist on each track. Pino
was out on tour with Simon & Garfunkel so Greg Lake sat
it on the Real Good Looking Boy.
Pino played for Old Red Wine.
Pete’s lyrics are solid in both cases. And the music
is definitely better than I had expected. However, I had very
low expectations coming into this.
He seems to have found a passion for writing again. I have
seen a video clip of them doing Real Good Looking Boy live.
During the performance Pete hits two terribly wrong chords…..and
that just shocked me.
Roger’s voice was way above where I expected. The man
after all is now over 60 years old. To still sing the music
of The Who is a tribute to his commitment to his role with
the band.
In short, listen to the songs. Listen to them a few times.
I guarantee you will find yourself singing the chorus to yourself.
Ok, onto some very important upcoming events.
