Let It Be
“When I find myself in times of trouble Mother Mary comes to me. Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.”
I, like everyone else, am struggling to comprehend what happened a week ago. Where did it all go wrong? There is no way to excuse what the gunman did. You have to wonder if there is anything anyone could have done. Were there any signs? Should someone have seen what was unfolding in his mind? Where was Mother Mary to give him words of wisdom in his time of trouble?
“And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me. Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.”
Twenty children, innocent souls, sitting in a classroom at an age when they shouldn’t have a care in the world, were suddenly faced with their hour of darkness. A darkness so deep that even us as adults cannot fathom; how can we expect children to? Mother Mary tried to stand in front of them in the form of teachers, innocent souls themselves. However the darkness was too great.
“And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree. There will be an answer, let it be.”
Hearts are not only broken, they are shattered. They continue to shatter every day as these children and their teachers are laid to rest. However, no matter how long we search, how deep we dig, we will never find an answer. Can there be an answer? Until there is, how can we let it be?
“For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see. There will be an answer, let it be.”
Twenty children have parted. Innocence lost in a flash. The flash of a gun. I pray that they can see the outpouring of love. That they can feel how many people are sharing their pain. Trying to ease it. They were in school, a place that is supposed to provide answers. Now they all have a single question. Why?
“And when the night is cloudy there is still a light that shines on me. Shine until tomorrow, let it be.”
There was one lone killer. However, there were a number of good people who sacrificed themselves in an attempt to stop him. They gave up their own lives to protect children, not their own children, someone else’s. Those people, and their good intentions, shine a bright light on a very cloudy night.
“I wake up to the sounds of music. Mother Mary comes to me. Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.”
We find solace in music. It’s part of every important and emotional ceremony we experience. At the funerals of these children you will hear “Amazing Grace”, you will hear “On Eagles Wings”, and you will hear tears. I’ve written more than 500 words on this page. Yet after the events of last week, I’m still searching for words of wisdom.
“Let it be, Let it be, Let it be yeah let it be. There will be an answer, let it be. Let it be, Let it be, Let it be yeah let it be. Whisper words of wisdom. Let it be.”
As always, until next time, please stay safe!
later,
dan
